This course will teach students the basic knowledge of engine and emission control theory, design and operation. A student searching to get their smog license will have to successfully complete the B.A.R. Smog Check Inspector Training Level 1.
This will be the first step to meet the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s Training Program for inexperienced students.
Student wishing to become a license smog technician and are inexperience, will have to meet the level 1 course before entering the level 2 Inspector Procedure Training Program.
Prerequisite:
An inexperience student wishing to get their smog license must complete level 1 training before proceeding too level 2 Inspection Procedure.
If you do not have the experience listed below you will have to complete level 1.
ASE Engine Performance “A8″
ASE Electrical “A6″
ASE Advance Engine Performance “L1″ 0r
AA/AS Certificate in Automotive Technology and 1 year experience or
2 years experience and BAR Alternative/ASE class and 1 year experience or
2 years experience and BAR Alternative/ASE equivalency training.
On completion of this course a student shall should be able to:
Demonstrate personal shop, equipment, and vehicle safety
Knowledge of engine theory and operation
Identify engine parts and operation
Describe emission control systems theory, design and operation
Demonstrate how to check ignition timing, emission components and ignition system
Demonstrate their knowledge on OBD ll vehicles, readiness test and fault codes
T o pass the course the student must complete the laboratory assignments, and pass the final examinations with a 70% or better.
